Clarissa started learning Chinese in high school, motivated by personal interest and the hope of connecting with her Chinese heritage. As an Indonesian Chinese, she believed that learning Chinese was the first step to deepening her connection to the culture.

Finlay Jones

Finlay was born in Taiwan and grew up hearing Chinese at home, especially from his mum. After moving to New Zealand, he began attending English-speaking schools but continued learning Chinese at home — motivated both by his mum’s encouragement and his own desire to stay connected with family in Taiwan. He thinks it’s pretty cool to speak two languages and loves being able to FaceTime his relatives in Chinese.
