Chinese Film Night
Syndetics book coverEnjoy four different movies every Tuesday night in September on the big screen for free at the Central Library. Films are in Chinese with English subtitles.
– Central library: Tuesday 6, 13, 20, and 27 September, 6:00-8:00pm. Booking is essential. Please ring 8014068 or 8014083 to reserve your seat. Reservation not taken up by the start time 6:00pm will be given to the customers waiting as seats are limited.

Nihao Stories & Rhymes sessions
The popular Nihao Stories & Rhymes sessions in Chinese will take place at four locations during Chinese Language Week. Bring your kids and have fun learning Chinese!
– Central Library: Wednesday 14 September, 11:00-11:30am. Cost: Free
– Johnsonville library: Tuesday 13 September 10:30-11:00am. Cost: Free.
– Karori library: Thursday 15 September, 11:30am-12:00pm. Cost: Free.
– Brooklyn library: Friday 16 September, 11:00-11:30am. Cost: Free.

Sand painting
Enjoy the stunning performance of sand painting by Yaqiong Ma from the Massey Students Association. Sand painting is the art of pouring sand on the surface to create the fantastic effect of light and shadow. You can also have a go at sand painting at the end of the performance.

Chinese Characters Colouring
Learning to write Chinese characters would never be so easy, and fun. Come to the library and collect all colouring sheets! Available at all libraries during opening hours.

Chinese language class chinese corner booksCome to the library and join the free session to learn Chinese. You will learn basic communication words and phrases for greeting and essential communication.
– Central library: Monday 12 September 12:00-12:30pm at Chinese Corner. Cost: Free.
– Karori library: Friday 16 September, 3:30-4:00pm. Cost: Free.

Library Tour
Wellington Central Library is situated in the heart of the city and has beautiful city to sea view. Welcome to the tour of the library to discover our wide range of services and collections. These include Chinese collection, books, DVDs, RFID technology, Chinese language collection, Lynda.com, events and much more! The tour will be conducted in Chinese at the Central Library Thursday 15 September at 10:00am. Bookings are essential. Please call the information desk on 801-4068 or 801-4083 (Chinese).

Music and dance
Bring your family to the performance of traditional Chinese dance and string instrument performance: Zheng. Come to the Central Library on Saturday 17th of September at 4:00pm. Dance is brought to you by students of Wellington Chinese Language School. Zheng performance by Carolyn Wang.

Peking Opera and dance
peking operaEnjoy China’s national treasure: Peking Opera, plus dance and music donated by the Chinese Cultural & Arts Association, and Ming Tea Studio. Come to the Central Library on Saturday 17th of September at 11:00am-12:00pm.

Reading Magazines in Chinese
DragonSourceDragonsource provides access to hundreds of Chinese language magazines in both simplified and traditional Chinese including Vogue, Reader’s Digest, and Phoenix weekly. These can all be viewed on your pc or browser on your phone. The database can be searched using title, keyword, or alternatively simply click on the magazine covers.
