1 AUGUST 2024 ISSUE

你好 Nǐ hăo,

Ni hao, kia ora, and welcome to our latest news.

There is a lot going on as we get ready for NZCLW 2024. There’s still time to get involved as a Chinese Language Superstar, and don’t forget to let us know about the events you have planned for September 22 to September 28 as well.

We have extended the deadline for 10 For 10 applications until 5th August!

The New Zealand Chinese Language Week Trust is set to take 10 young Kiwis to China for 10 days as a special initiative to celebrate 10 years of the New Zealand Chinese Language Week.

Participants will visit five cities - Guangzhou, Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, and Shenzhen. Highlights will include receptions at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing and the New Zealand Consulate in Guangzhou, visits to BYD headquarters, the New Zealand Centre at Peking University, and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding Conservation.

The trip will leave New Zealand on 9 September and return 20 September.

This year is the 10th anniversary of NZCLW, and it’s a special milestone. So we are looking for a wide range of people prepared to share their language learning journey.

There are many different reasons for learning Chinese, and many different paths to take to learn the language, and we’d love to hear yours!

Language superstars don't need to be fluent — anyone on the language learning journey can be a star! Over the past 10 years, we have heard from people who started learning Chinese to speak with new classmates, to buy food when visiting their English teacher parents in Beijing, or to manage vineyards in remote parts of China.

Those alumni stories will be shared again as we get closer to September.

Time is flying and it will be September before we know it, so it’s a good time now to start thinking how you would like to take part in New Zealand Chinese Language Week this year.

Please email the project team about any events and activities you are working on – we’d love to hear about them! We also invite members of the community to register their events at the link below, so we can share them with supporters through our social media and other channels.

Xie Xie!
