12 MARCH 2026 ISSUE

你好 Nǐ hăo!

Welcome to the March newsletter for New Zealand Chinese Language Week!

The team is revving the engines and getting ready to roll on a fantastic series of events, resources, and activities for this year’s celebrations of Chinese language and culture.

We’re working on all the favourite annual features and some new surprises, and we can’t wait to hear from you about what you have planned for this year’s New Zealand Chinese Language Week.

New Zealand Chinese Language Week is earlier this year, running from 29 June to 5 July - the final week of Term 2.

Keep an eye out on our social media channels, Facebook and Instagram, to make sure you’re in the loop on what’s happening around the country.

The team at NZCLW hope you had a wonderful time celebrating the Chinese New Year and welcoming in the Year of the Fire Horse. We also hope you enjoyed following along with our Chinese New Year celebrations on social media!

We congratulate two of our followers on winning the NZCLW Red Envelope social media giveaway, your prizes are on their way to you!

Coming up on 20 April is International Chinese Language Day, a global celebration of Chinese language and culture, and a great way to warm up for NZCLW! Check out our social media for ways to get involved.

Time is racing by and it will be June before we know it, so now is a good time to start thinking about what events you might hold as part of New Zealand Chinese Language Week this year!

We love seeing all the different events and it’s great to be able to share what is on offer from groups, schools, and libraries around New Zealand.

If you’re planning to host an event, no matter how big or small, register it using the button below so we can help promote it.

For the past eight years, the New Zealand Chinese Language Week Trust has worked with David Ling Publishing to publish and distribute a trilingual children’s book, and this year is no exception!

Meet this year’s edition, Hauraki Broo.

The story follows a young Bryde’s whale, Broo, as it searches Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf for food in a beautiful story about marine life and why protecting our ocean matters.

The books, in English, Te Reo Māori, and Chinese, are well-regarded and thoroughly enjoyed by children and wider audiences around New Zealand. They are distributed free of charge to all schools and district libraries and can also be purchased on our website.

You can now pre-order this year’s edition, Hauraki Broo, on our website using the link below.

Make sure you’re subscribed to this newsletter and following our socials so you don’t miss announcements, resources, and calls to get involved.

A special part of New Zealand Chinese Language Week is celebrating the journeys of Kiwis learning Chinese. Each year, our Chinese Language Superstars share their personal experiences, highlighting the many benefits of learning another language and inspiring others across Aotearoa to give it a go.

You don’t need to be fluent to be a Superstar, the role is simply about sharing your language learning journey and encouraging others to start their own.

If you’d like to be a Chinese Language Superstar this year, or nominate someone who is passionate about learning Chinese, apply now using the link below.

New Zealand Chinese Language Week would not be possible each year without the generous support of our wonderful sponsors. We are delighted to welcome Hauora Honey as a new partner for 2026.

Hauora produce a range of exceptional honey products and as exporters, they recognise the importance of language learning and cross-cultural connection. Their support helps make initiatives like NZCLW possible, and we are incredibly grateful for their contribution.

Thank you, Hauora Honey!
