你好 Nǐ hăo,

Winter is coming but we’re warming things up!

Cooler days might be on their way, but things are heating up at New Zealand Chinese Language Week!

🔥Mark your calendars and get excited, NZCLW2025 is happening from Sunday, August 31 – Saturday, September 6.

Time may have fallen back, but our team is leaping forward into planning for this year’s exciting activities.

👉 SAVE THE DATE! (Have you added NZCLW to your calendar yet?)

UN Chinese Language Day

Warm up for NZCLW2025 by joining us to celebrate UN Chinese Language Day on April 20! Follow our socials to catch a special message from our Chair, Jo Coughlan.

Did you know? April 20 honours Cangjie, the legendary creator of Chinese characters and an important historical figure who served as the official historian of the Yellow Emperor.

Chinese was established as an official language of the United Nations in 1946. Each year, the UN celebrates all six official languages to promote linguistic and cultural diversity.

Language Superstars Wanted!

The purpose of New Zealand Chinese Language Week is to encourage New Zealanders to learn Chinese. During the week, we celebrate Chinese language and culture because learning a language opens doors to understanding different cultures.

Are YOU our next Chinese Language Superstar? We’re looking for enthusiastic language learners ready to share their inspiring journeys!

No need to be fluent, just passionate! Why did you start learning? How has Chinese enriched your life? Inspire others to give it a go!

Lights, Camera, Action! – NZCLW Film Expansion

The NZCLW project team is thrilled to announce that our popular Chinese Film event is expanding this year, thanks to generous support from the Ministry for Ethnic Communities’ Ethnic Communities Development Fund!

After last year’s sold-out hit "Vida La Vida," we're bringing the cinema experience to:

- Christchurch 🍿

- Dunedin 🎥

- Auckland (even more screenings!) 🌟

Film selection is still underway—stay tuned and be the first to know what we’ll be screening and where!

Dumpling Day

Who doesn’t love dumplings?! Join the nationwide celebration of Dumpling Day on September 26! Bring your family, gather your friends, and feast together.

Last year was amazing - people from Auckland to Christchurch, and even the Chatham Islands joined in! This year, we want to partner again with your favourite restaurants and the hospitality sector for fantastic deals and events. Dumpling Day 2025 promises to be the tastiest yet!

👉 Tell us your favourite dumpling spots or register your restaurant!
