Dumplings are great, but Chinese food culture is more than just dumplings – the richness of local expertise was showcased in the television Sik Fan Lah! earlier this year. “Sik Fan Lah is Cantonese” for “time to eat”, and the producers of that series took viewers on a culinary adventure across New Zealand, highlighting different cultural traditions. With work from Jennifer Yee Collinson, Jess Wong and Pearl Pan, Sik Fan Lah! is now accompanied by a cookbook to go with the series.

It’s guaranteed to make you feel hungry!

The cookbook does give instructions on how to cook dumplings in different ways, as well as a great recipe for chicken-free laksa dumplings. So it could be handy for Dumpling Day!

A limited amount of Sik Fan Lah! recipe books are available! Books cost is just $25!

To order:

1. Email: sikfanlah.tv.series@gmail.com

2. Please include your name, email, postal address and quantity you'd like to to order. They are unable to deliver to P.O Boxes.

3. Payment details and an order number for your order will be sent to you afterward that. Please be aware orders cannot be dispatched until payment is received.

Every year, we embark on a heartwarming journey of producing a children's storybook, thoughtfully translated into three languages: Mandarin Chinese, Te Reo, and English. And this year, we're taking it up a notch by creating an enchanting audiobook, allowing children to immerse themselves in the magical world of storytelling independently.

We believe in the power of sharing knowledge and fostering a love for other languages among young learners. That's why, as every year, we'll be sending complimentary copies of "Weka's Waiata" to all primary schools and libraries across the country.

But that's not all! "Weka's Waiata" will also be available for purchase on our website. Pre-orders are now open, secure your copy today to guarantee a front-row seat to this mesmerizing tale. By getting your hands on a copy, you not only bring home a cherished story but also support our efforts in promoting language learning and nurturing young minds.

Visit our website to pre-order your copy of "Weka's Waiata" and embark on an unforgettable literary journey. Together, let's inspire a generation of young readers and spread the joy of learning other languages!

The Nelson-Marlborough branch of the New Zealand China Association is holding a public event on September 30 to celebrate New Zealand Chinese Language Week.

Last year, this group had its first public event, which was highly successful and well-supported by the Blenheim community.

This year, the event at the Marlborough Event Centre starts at 1pm, with workshops on Chinese calligraphy, tea art, and cultural displays, and from 2pm, there will be traditional dances and performances in Chinese culture.

Spread the word about New Zealand Chinese Language Week. You can help by following us across our social media platforms, sharing our posts and encouraging your friends and colleagues to follow us too!
